Kyei Mensah: Gospel star on 'amazing' work with award-winning FRA! on brand new ‘You Made It’
Gospel star Kyei Mensah has spoken about the “amazing” experience he had working with the Highlife Funk band FRA! on the latter’s brand new song, You Made It.
According to Mensah, a singer-songwriter and guitarist, on this occasion, he only performed, as the composition of You Made It was handled by Joshua ‘Virgen’ Boateng (JVB) of FRA!, and Voice of America (VOA) and Class Media Group (CMG) journalist and radio DJ Prince Benjamin (PB) – a seasoned yet low-key songwriter.
Celebrating his growth since bursting onto the music scene six years ago with his hit Nyame Bekyere, he commended the award-winning FRA!, too, on their vivid progress.
Kyei Mensah, speaking exclusively to PB, indicated his exciting at the thought of performing his collaboration live again with FRA! soon.
“Initially, Virgen contacted me that he had this chorus and he wanted me to write a verse on the song. But I wasn’t getting anything – I think around that time, I had a writer’s block. God being so good, Prince Benjamin actually wrote the full song,” he revealed.
According to him, the official cut that was released by FRA! on Friday, October 11, 2024, was from “the second time we recorded the song” live at a FRA!ternity concert.
“I think I’ve been on FRA!’s stage for about five times. And with each passing year, it’s a different and better experience. The boys are getting better, by God’s grace, I’m getting better, too,” he exclaimed.
“Right now, hearing [You Made It] on the streaming platforms, it’s surreal. I really, really love it. It turned out really well. The vocals turned out really, really well. Chale, it’s such a great experience performing with FRA! – it’s amazing, and I’m looking forward to performing the song live again with them soon,” he concluded.
You Made It is the opening track – out of four – for FRA!’s first-ever EP named after the curtain-closer called You Made It.
Sharing a bass cover of the song performed by new band member Frank Obeng-King on Facebook, the band FRA! summed up the meaning of the song, Sunday, October 20.
“True happiness comes from celebrating the success of others, knowing there’s enough greatness in the world for us all,” the 2024 Ghana Music Awards-USA awardee wrote.
