In two viral tapes on social media, a man and woman identified as the uncle and mother of the motorcyclist who died during an accident involving singer-songwriter Kofi Kinaata have spoken.

The man and woman, unnamed, took issues with how Kinaata reported the details of the Sunday, September 22, 2024, accident on social media.

They said the driver of the Toyota Land Cruiser Kinaata was chauffeured in, registered GR-1779-24, was Ellembele Constituency MP Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah's driver.

Lawrence Sey, the deceased rider of the motorcycle was a mate to a truck driver. His passenger Andrews Ansah, who at publication time has been transfered from the Effia Nkwanta Teaching Hospital, Takoradi, to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH), alias Interbeton, Cape Coast.

Mother

"They [Lawrence and Andrews] were coming from Agona Nkwanta towards Takoradi and you [Kinaata] were going towards Agona Nkwanta from Takoradi. You left your lane, knocked him down and dragged him into a ditch. You should see how the child looks... He died such a cruel death... Let's tell and allow the truth to work because Ghanaians are fond of injustice. I've never had anything against Kinaata but I am greatly hurt by the way he reported this incident. Meanwhile, he is an Ahanta like us," Lawrence's mother narrated.

"[Kinaata] should have stated one of the riders died instantly during the accident. The other child has been taken from Effia Nkwanta to Interbeton for critical care."

Uncle

"What he [Kinaata] said was not the truth. It was an overtaking done by the car that caused the accident. I was called immediately after the accident by the witnesses," Lawrence's uncle said.

According to him, there was a second motorcyle behind Lawrence's.

On the second motorcycle, there were three people, he indicated, explaining: "the rider swerved the car, unscathed, after seeing what happened to the first motorcycle and its riders. His male passenger hopped off, but the female riding in between them was injured – I later saw her with her wounds dressed".

"God saved those people but Junior was no so lucky. He did not even have a chance to cry out. If you look at the state of his motorcyle, it appears he got stuck under the car upon collision and he was dragged in that position over a distance," he continued.

"So why come give such a report on social media. It looks like you're pitiful and defenceless if you are not rich in Ghana," he bemoaned. "I am not a small boy [an insignificant person]."

He noted he was ready to grant interviews to the media in Accra to clarify Sunday's unfortunate events as Kinaata was conveyed in MP Buah's SUV.

Sunday afternoon, when news spread on social media that Kinaata had been involved in a gory accident which resulted in the instant death of his driver, the Susuka hitmaker took to social media to offer comfort to his fans that "everyone is fine".

In the Facebook video, he said the driver of the SUV he was riding in towards Nkroful in was not dead.

"A motorcycle with two people on it crossed the car that came for us for a programme at Nkroful. The driver knocked the motorcycle. We are fine but our concern now is for the motor riders. We'll follow up and keep you updated. We are praying the riders will be okay," he said, showing he was in "good health and sound mind" as he had earlier written on social media.

Though Kinaata made an appearance at the Nkrumah Fest programme Sunday night, he explained and apologised to the audience that he had to truncate his planned performance out of concern and a good conscience in view of the earlier accident. He asked for prayers for Lawrence and Andrews.
