Afrobeats superstar Davido has underlined his unshakable commitment to music, saying even if he were a president, he would “probably be doing a show once a month for the people”.

He was speaking on the Bootleg Kev podcast.

The Nigerian-American singer-songwriter lightheartedly recalled some time ago when he thought he would retire from music when he was 35, indicating this was, in reality, far from the truth judging from the success of African music spearheaded by individuals like him, and the trajectory he was currently on professionally and creatively.

“Now it’s like the energy and the vim is coming in, you know what I’m saying,” he said.

“And even for the culture, Afrobeats music is on a whole other level.”

Davido underlined he had been doing music “for 13 years.

“It takes some people two years. Sometimes, it takes some people… but it’s going to get there. But I don’t think I foresee me ever saying like, ‘Yeah, I think I want to hang it up’. I always enjoy music, no matter [what]. If I be the president of a country, I’d probably be doing shows once a month for the people.”

He shot down his host’s inference he was revealing plans concerning getting into politics.

“Nah, it’s just an example,” Davido laughed. “It’s not in my foreseeable future.”

However, the music executive remarked it would be “dope” to perform at his own inauguration as a president “with an official presidential band”.

The serial hitmaker revealed he was “in contact” with stars he desired for collaborations before he would ever call it a day in music, and they “definitely” were Rihanna, Drake, Billie Eilish.

He announced he had shot a video with Victoria Monét, after meeting at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
