DJ Cuppy's powerful view on an attitude of gratitude

DJ Cuppy, born Florence Otedola, has underlined the need for gratitude, reflecting on the events of her childhood and adulthood.

The daughter of Nigerian businessman and billionaire Femi Otedola, DJ Cuppy took to X to note how she took the advantages of belonging to a wealthy family for granted, when things that were no big deal to her were, in fact, the heartfelt prayers of others.

She indicated adulthood, for her, had come with a welcome epiphany.

The music executive and Oxford University alumnus expressed gratitude to God for the realisation she had had it better than many others in a world of woes, intimating recognising her privilege and having a sense of thankfulness had crytalised and enriched her outlook.

“Growing up, I didn’t fully realise just how privileged I was. I never had to worry about anything [to be honest]. Thank God, I see it now. What felt normal to me is something someone else is praying for. Gratitude changes everything,” DJ Cuppy wrote on March 1, 2025.

The billionaire heiress’s message on gratitude holds true for people from all walks and stations of life. As Ghanaian Highlife star Kofi Kinaata famously sang on Susuka (Cease Complaining), “No matter how far your house is, someone else lives beyond you.”
