Beverly Afaglo denounces youthful abuse of sex, smoking, drinking
Beverly Afaglo is greatly worried “about alcoholism, smoking and rampant sex” among the youth of Ghana.
The movie star spoke to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo midmorning programme, Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
Cannabis
Unlike today when smoking has become widespread and recreational, she observed, “those of us from the 80’s, when someone smoked weed, he was a real misfit”.
In spite of today’s “enlightenment and knowledge,” she cautioned “you are too young to engage in these things”.
Sex parties
“Some of them rent these Airbnb apartments and hold house parties where they do all sorts of worrying things. By the time they wake up the next day, they cannot even recall the night’s events,” Beverly said.
HIV
The actress and entrepreneur said: “I get so worried about the HIV education that is not so loud anymore. While we grew, the HIV education was in our faces; we saw pictures of terribly sick patients and their lives greatly impacted. We didn’t want to be like that.”
She observed: “Today’s young people have come to understand there’s medicine for HIV so they let down their guard and act unconcerned.”
She cautioned HIV, though not a death sentence in 2024, greatly complicated one’s life.
“It’s not an easy thing to constantly be on medication. It’ll complicate your love life, also. Someone who doesn’t have the status may not be interested in marrying you and may not agree to make a baby with you,” she warned.
Repercussions and regret
Beverly Afaglo urged the youth to live a life of modesty and moderation taking into account the implications of today’s choices and actions on their future.
She said an advantage of such a life was you reduced the chances of being a victim of blackmail and revenge porn, especially on social media.
“In the future, you may be a significant person who may have reformed but it would be too late. Some materials from your past shared online could ruin your life,” the TV presenter noted.
