Minister of Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts Abla Dzifa Gomashie during her vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee underlined some of her priorities.

She mentioned a review of the District Assemblies Acts, and the Creative Arts Agency (CAA), and lobbying to ensure roads to tourist sites countrywide were quality, to facilitate visitation and improve revenue collection.

“The District Assemblies Acts should be reviewed. The district assemblies have the opportunity to develop tourism specifically for their communities. I will be more than happy to work with them so that the concept of having centres for national culture across the country will be reviewed,” she said during her vetting, January 22, 2025.

“I also think it is an area that has the potential of having low-hanging fruits for young people who are talented and creative to take advantage of. I will work with you to make that happen.”

The District Assemblies Acts include Assemblies Common Fund Act, 1993 (Act 455), the Local Government Act, 1993 (Act 462), and the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).

The Ketu South MP also assured she would lobby the Minister of Roads & Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, for quality roads to tourist sites.

“I am not sure the roads and highways minister is not aware of the situation in our region. I know the passion he comes to do with everything. I will push as hard as I can to ensure he gives attention to roads that lead to tourist destinations,” she said.

“When that is done, they will bring investment back to the country. Also, if the roads to these destinations are fixed, it will increase trips there and he will get the benefit so, I will lobby as hard as I can.”

The former Tourism Deputy Minister said she had plans to have a critical look at the Creative Arts Agency (CAA), for which she played a key role in establishing, also.

“The Creative Arts Agency that has been formed, my understanding before we left office was that it was a multi-purpose vehicle, not an agency. But I see that now it is an agency,” she said.

“When I have the nod, I will take a critical look at the agency and its functions, and see how best to make it work with the National Commission on Culture, and of course, the ministry as a whole.”

Parliament approved Ms Gomashie's nomination on Thursday, January 23.
