'The Bank Square': BoG to commission new HQ Wed. Nov. 20
The newly constructed Bank of Ghana (BoG) headquarters, otherwise called The Bank Square, will be commissioned on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be the special guest of honour at the strictly-by-invitation ceremony which is scheduled for 10 AM.
The approximately USD250 million project prompted animated debates on traditional and new media earlier July, following a report which revealed the central bank had made a loss of GHS10.5 billion in 2023.
"This project was way advanced. Stopping it mid-way would not have been the best decision under the circumstances," the Special Advisor to the BoG Governor (Dr Ernest Addison), Stephen Opata, said, reacting to the criticism.
The BoG insists it has outgrown its legacy location which is, also, prone to earthquakes, according to Geological Survey Authority.
