DVLA announces pre-registration for 2025 vehicle licensing
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced the start of pre-registration for motor vehicles for the 2025 registration period.
The pre-registration exercise, which commenced this December, aims to simplify and streamline the vehicle registration process across the country.
In a press release, the DVLA stated that motor vehicle licensing would officially begin on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at all operational offices nationwide.
As part of the process, vehicle owners will receive a Vehicle Registration Smart Card and a Certificate of Title, detailing essential information about the vehicle.
The license plates for the new registrations will bear a “-25” suffix to indicate the year of registration, in compliance with the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180).
To enhance convenience for vehicle owners, the DVLA has implemented a two-stage registration process:
Pre-Registration:
Vehicle owners are required to present their vehicles, along with customs entry documents, for inspection and validation at authorized Vehicle Testing Stations and DVLA offices.
Final Registration:
Starting January 2, 2025, vehicle owners can visit their preferred DVLA office to complete the process. This includes making payments, capturing biometric details, and collecting registration documents such as license plates and roadworthiness certificates.
The DVLA emphasized the role of its Online Vehicle Registration System in enhancing the efficiency and security of the registration process.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety and convenience of our cherished clients,” the release stated, reaffirming the Authority’s dedication to providing improved services.
The DVLA urged all vehicle owners to take advantage of the pre-registration period to ensure a smooth and hassle-free registration experience in 2025.
