President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced the government's intention to implement advanced measures to boost irrigation farming in the Upper East Region. 

The President made this declaration during the inauguration of Phase 3 of the Upper East Regional Hospital rehabilitation project on Thursday, August 15, 2024, in Bolgatanga.

Recognizing the challenges posed by the region's drought-prone climate, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the detrimental effects of the harsh weather on agricultural productivity. He noted that the current conditions are significantly impacting crop yields, which in turn affects the livelihoods of farmers in the region.

"Reports indicate that the arid weather is severely hampering crop yields in this region," the President remarked. 

"This situation requires immediate action, and I want to assure you that my government is committed to addressing it."

President Akufo-Addo revealed that in the coming weeks, the government will launch a series of initiatives aimed at improving irrigation farming. 

These initiatives are expected to help mitigate the effects of erratic rainfall and enhance food security in the Upper East Region.

"We are in the advanced stages of planning, and soon, I will announce comprehensive measures to strengthen irrigation farming here," he added.

The planned initiatives are set to provide farmers with the necessary resources and infrastructure to manage water effectively, ensuring consistent agricultural production throughout the year, despite adverse weather conditions.

The President's announcement was met with optimism by local farmers and stakeholders present at the event.

 Many of them believed that the proposed measures would be vital in transforming agriculture in the region and improving the livelihoods of its residents.
