Man allegedly shoots wife in Adaklu
In Adaklu Tevikpo, a farming community nestled in the Volta region has been struck a tragedy when Kwame Ayew, a farmer, allegedly shot his wife, known affectionately as "Mamaa," with a gun.
The couple, along with their nine children, had been living in the rural community.
The grim discovery was made by the couple's eldest son upon returning from classes.
He found his mother lying in a pool of blood and immediately raised the alarm.
According to Phillip Tetteh, who spoke with Ho FM the son then proceeded to the family farm to investigate further.
Ayew, the alleged perpetrator, was nowhere to be found for the entirety of the previous day until Wednesday.
However, he later went to the Adaklu Ahunda police station to report himself.
Chief Inspector Nukpeza confirmed that Ayew had surrendered, stating that he had shot someone dead.
Subsequently, he was detained pending further investigation.
In a surprising turn of events, the community elder who had gone to report the incident was also detained by the police, as revealed by Ho FM's news desk.
This afternoon, police officers visited the community to remove Mamaa's body and transport it to the Ho Teaching Hospital for autopsy and additional investigation.
Initial information suggests that Ayew became enraged with his wife for undergoing a Bilateral Tubal Ligation (BTL) without informing him. Allegedly, he confronted her, threatening her life.
A neighbour, speaking anonymously, recounted that Ayew had demanded that his family instruct Mamaa to leave for her parent's home, as they had supported her decision to undergo the procedure without his consent.
Tragically, instead of complying, Ayew's actions reportedly escalated to the fatal shooting of Mamaa.
Currently, Ayew remains in police custody while investigations continue into the harrowing incident
