Ghana ready to partner with Saudi Arabia for energy security — Napo
Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh has expressed Ghana’s readiness to partner with Saudi Arabia in the quest to ensure energy security for the country.
Energy security, he noted, is within the overarching context of Ghana’s economic growth.
Dr Prempeh said this at a meeting with the Minister for Energy of Saudi Arabia, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, on the margins of the World Economic Forum’s Special Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The forum was on the theme, “Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development”.
Dr Prempeh’s participation at the forum was on the invitation of the Saudi Energy Minister.
Discussions
The discussions with the Saudi Energy Minister were on potential collaboration in the energy sectors of the two countries, with a focus on Oil for Sustainability Programme, clean cooking initiatives as well as areas within the power sector value chain.
Deepening frontiers
Emphasising his visit to Riyadh, Dr Prempeh said, “I believe it will further deepen the frontiers of Ghana’s bilateral relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and I have no doubt, it will have far-reaching benefits for our energy future.”
The forum As global warming continues at critical rates and energy access disparities persist, experts are increasingly sounding the alarm around the need to accelerate a sustainable and comprehensive energy transition.
Catalysing the energy transition was a central theme of the Forum which took place from 28 to 29 April 2024. The gathering convened leading energy experts from across sectors to identify financial, technological and policy solutions aimed at scaling up the use of clean energy solutions while ensuring equitable growth.
The meeting was also attended by dozens of energy ministers and commissioners from around the world, many of whom participated in public sessions.
