Nigeria: Education minister, Mamman’s phone line hacked
The Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, has issued a warning about a hacking incident involving his phone line. In a post on his official X account on Thursday, he urged the public to avoid communicating through the compromised number.
“My phone line has been compromised. Please refrain from calling the number and ignore any messages requesting assistance until the issue is resolved. Thank you for your understanding,” he stated.
The Ministry of Education confirmed the breach in a statement released on Friday by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade. The ministry reported that the Minister’s WhatsApp number is currently being used by unauthorised individuals.
The statement emphasised, “The Office of the Honourable Minister of Education wishes to inform the general public that the Minister’s WhatsApp number has been hacked and is being misused. We deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause and urge everyone to disregard any messages received from this number until further notice.”
Authorities have been alerted to the situation, and an investigation is underway. The ministry encourages the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to this incident.
