SWAG unveils state-of-the-art secretariat in Accra

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has officially inaugurated its new state-of-the-art secretariat in Accra.
The grand opening ceremony, held on Friday, 30 August 2024, was graced by top dignitaries from the sports and media industries, including representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Sports Authority, Ghana Journalists Association, and other key stakeholders.
In his keynote address, SWAG President Evergreen Kwabena Yeboah expressed gratitude to the attendees and emphasised the significance of the new secretariat.
“This edifice represents our commitment to excellence in sports journalism, our dedication to providing a conducive environment for our members to thrive, and our quest to influence the development and promotion of sports in Ghana.
“With this edifice, we are open to business with all stakeholders,” Mr. Yeboah stated.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports lauded SWAG for its contributions to sports development in Ghana, pledging government support for the association's future initiatives.
"This new secretariat is a testament to SWAG's hard work and dedication. I pledge the government's support for SWAG's initiatives and look forward to a fruitful partnership," a ministry representative noted.
The National Sports Authority (NSA) also called for stronger collaboration with SWAG to further develop sports in the country.
Other notable attendees included Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, President of the Ghana Journalists Association; William Kartey, Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports; National Sports Authority officials Mr. Numekevor Dodzie and Majid Bawah; GHALCA Chairman Cudjoe Fianu; Tony Baffoe of the Professional Footballers Association; H.E. Amarkai Amarteifio; Joe Aggrey; Ebo Quansah, and the Presidents of various national sports federations including Swimming, Badminton, Baseball, Chess, and Skate.
The new SWAG secretariat, equipped with modern facilities, is designed to cater to the needs of its members and the broader sports journalism community. Guests were given a tour of the plush facilities, and members of SWAG expressed their excitement about this significant milestone in the organisation's history.
