65-year-old man gifted a car for his patriotic walk from Kumasi to Mahama’s inauguration

Alhaji Ayaana Yakubu, the 65-year-old man who walked from Kumasi to Accra to attend President John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration on January 7, has been rewarded with a brand-new Renault car, an undisclosed cash gift, and shopping vouchers worth GH¢5,000.
The gesture, made possible by an anonymous philanthropist, aimed to honour Alhaji Ayaana’s unwavering dedication and patriotism.
The presentation ceremony was hosted by renowned broadcaster and showbiz personality Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), who handed over the gifts.
Alhaji Ayaana who is a herbalist by profession announced the receipt of the car while speaking in an interview with Yaa Titi on Ghanaman Nkosuo on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
Alhaji Ayaana’s journey to celebrate Ghana’s democracy is not his first act of patriotic devotion.
In 1997, he garnered national attention for embarking on a similar long-distance walk to commemorate the second-term inauguration of former President Jerry John Rawlings.
In 1999, he organized a 16-kilometre peace and health walk in Tamale, advocating for unity and well-being.
Speaking about the event earlier, KOD wrote on Instagram, “This afternoon, I had the honour of presenting Mr. Yakubu—a gentleman who walked from Kumasi to congratulate H.E. President Mahama on his victory in the last elections—with a brand-new Renault car, an undisclosed amount of money, and shopping vouchers worth GH¢5,000 from Nineteen57.”
KOD also expressed gratitude to the anonymous benefactor whose generosity made the gesture possible, ensuring Alhaji Ayaana’s commitment to national unity and democracy was celebrated in a meaningful way.
