The Pantang Psychiatric Hospital in the Greater Accra Region was filled with excitement and activity on Thursday as Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Vice-Presidential Candidate, visited to engage health workers as part of his campaign to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential bid in the December 7 election.

Scores of the health workers greeted the NPP running mate with cheers, singing and chanting in support as he connected with staff and trainees alike.

This visit followed an earlier interaction Dr. Opoku Prempeh, affectionately known as “Napo,” had with nursing trainees and health workers at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on Wednesday.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd at Pantang, Napo cautioned the nurses and trainees against voting for John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressing concerns that an NDC administration would cancel the nursing trainee allowances, which the NPP pledges to maintain as crucial support for students pursuing healthcare careers.

Napo underscored the NPP’s commitment to improving healthcare and expanding employment for health workers across Ghana.

He promised that a Bawumia-led NPP government would secure more job opportunities for health professionals through the government’s Agenda 111 initiative, which involves the construction of new hospitals nationwide.

He urged the nurses and health workers to vote overwhelmingly for Dr. Bawumia and the NPP to advance healthcare progress.

Robert Lamptey, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Madina, also spoke to the trainee nurses and health workers in the area, promising improved living conditions and additional hostel facilities for healthcare trainees in and around Madina.

Mr Lamptey encouraged the health workers to vote for Dr. Bawumia and support his candidacy, promising that their welfare would remain a priority under an NPP administration.

With these commitments to healthcare infrastructure, job creation, and trainee allowances, the NPP continues to rally support from health workers across the country in the lead-up to the December election.
