Vote for me, I’ll be more accountable to you for a longer period than Mahama – Bawumia
The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has claimed that Ghana would gain substantial benefits if the NPP remains in power.
He has therefore urged Ghanaians to keep the NPP in power to ensure continued progress and development.
Speaking at the Kaneshie Market in the Okaikoi South constituency in Accra, Dr. Bawumia emphasised the party’s commitment to policies that would spur business growth and improve the standard of living for all Ghanaians.
Outlining his vision for Ghana’s future, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the introduction of a flat tax policy in cedis, which would apply to all goods, as well as a tax amnesty to prevent confusion with the Ghana Revenue Authority.
He argued that these measures are designed to make Ghana’s import duties comparable to, or even lower than, those of neighboring Togo.
“We are introducing a new directive to reform the import regime at the Port, including a flat tax policy in cedis, applicable to all goods, making Ghana’s import duty comparable to or lower than Togo’s,” he said.
He continued: “We are also launching a women’s bank, an SME bank dedicated to supporting women traders with financial assistance for their businesses.”
Dr. Bawumia also announced plans to remove import duties on mobile phones, extend the validity of driving licences to 10 years, abolish the e-levy, and provide digital skills training for the youth.
“Additionally, we are introducing a tax amnesty to avoid confusion with the Ghana Revenue Authority and eliminating import duty on mobile phones,” he added.
Positioning himself as a more accountable choice for president, Dr. Bawumia called on voters to back his candidacy over that of his opponent, former President John Dramani Mahama.
"If you vote for former President John Dramani Mahama, he will only be accountable for four years. However, if you vote for me, I will have the opportunity to be accountable to you for a longer period," he stated.
