Vote NDC at your own risk – Akim Swedru MP cautions Ghanaians
Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has urged Ghanaians to be realistic about their economic expectations, warning that voting out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may not automatically lead to reduced prices of goods and services.
In an opinion post, the Akim Swedru MP questioned whether the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, John Mahama, have a clear plan to address economic challenges.
"Is Mr. Mahama and his NDC going to reduce the cement price to 50.00?
Is Mr. Mahama and his NDC going to bring down the dollar exchange rate to 10.00?
Is Mr. Mahama going to reduce the fuel price to 10.00 per gallon?" he quizzed.
He noted that in 2008, cement was sold for less than 8.00, the dollar exchanged for 1.10, and petrol was less than 4.00 per gallon.
However, despite these relatively low prices, the NDC and some sections of the public criticized the NPP government, leading to its loss in the 2008 elections.
Mr Kennedy Osei Nyarko cautioned that Ghanaians should not repeat the same mistakes.
"If you are a Ghanaian voter and you cannot convince yourself that Mr. Mahama and the NDC are going to reduce cement price to 50.00 or dollar rate to 10.00 and also bring down petrol price to 10.00, then you are only embarking on a fruitless journey."
He emphasized that global economic challenges are beyond Ghana's control, and managing expectations is crucial.
"Globally, things have become very expensive, and nothing is going to change anytime soon", he warned
