Transparency, integrity can help rebuild public trust in leaders – National Peace Council

The National Peace Council has urged political parties to take responsibility for restoring public confidence in political institutions and leadership.
The Council emphasized that political parties can play a vital role in bridging this trust gap by prioritizing transparency, integrity, unity, and responsible conduct.
Speaking at the National Dialogue on Peace Beyond Election 2024, held on Saturday, September 21, the Executive Secretary of the Council, Mr George Amoh, highlighted the need for political parties to uphold democratic processes and ensure fair elections.
He stressed that focusing on the welfare of citizens would help strengthen the public’s faith in governance and the political system.
Mr. Amoh also noted that the Electoral Commission (EC) has a crucial role to play in addressing trust issues within the electoral process.
He pointed out the importance of alignment between words and actions, cautioning that inconsistency could sow doubt in the minds of the public.
Referring to ongoing concerns about the voters' register, Mr. Amoh revealed that the Council has been in discussions with both the EC and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to find a resolution.
He expressed optimism that a solution would soon be reached.
"We are working openly, not behind the scenes. We expect to announce progress by Monday, considering the variables at play.
We believe our leaders have the country's best interests at heart, and we must create an environment that allows them to guide Ghana towards the future we all desire," he added.
