Support Bawumia to ‘break the 8’ – Akufo-Addo tells people of UW/R
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has thrown his full support behind the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, calling on Ghanaians to back his bid in the 2024 presidential elections.
During a visit to the Upper West Region, where he addressed chiefs and opinion leaders in Wa, President Akufo-Addo praised Dr. Bawumia for his loyalty, competence, and dedication to public service.
Highlighting their nearly two decades of partnership, President Akufo-Addo expressed absolute confidence in Dr. Bawumia's ability to steer the nation in the right direction.
“In the nearly 20 years that I have been working with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, I have not had one day, one occasion to doubt his loyalty, to doubt his commitment to our common goal," he said.
He continued that: "I have come here to ask you for your support to make Bawumia break the 8."
President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to see Dr. Bawumia as the leader capable of continuing the NPP’s developmental agenda, especially in contrast to opposition leader John Dramani Mahama.
He criticised Mr. Mahama for attempting to associate his campaign slogan "Breaking the 8" with the symbolic meaning of the number eight, a reference the former president has used to suggest a favourable outcome in the election.
“I see that the former president is saying all kinds of things about the number 8 that he chose. That it means he is going to win. Breaking the 8 and having the number 8, that is not a good sign at all,” President Akufo-Addo said, rejecting the notion that Mahama’s interpretation of the number would secure victory.
