Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, has called for preemptive measures to avert the replication of Kenya's violent protests in Ghana as the nation goes to the polls on December 7, this year.

Addressing the media at a press soiree in Kumasi, he said Kenya's demonstration has been reproduced in Tanzania and "it could be in Ghana" and for that reason, preemptive measures should be taken to avert it from happening.

Describing the December 7 general election as "a very serious election," he said, "We either break the mood or we lose everything" because the nation is heating up.

He noted that the nation does not want to experience violence but free, fair, and transparent elections, urging that the will of Ghanaians should not be circumvented.

Speaker Bagbin said with the support of parliament, he has begun an engagement with the various stakeholders including the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) who promised free, fair, and transparent elections.

Although, he said he was yet to meet with President Akufo-Addo and his Vice, the Chief Justice, Asantehene, and other Chiefs as well as the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) have been engaged and all commended the action taken.

He said he would ensure all stakeholders are involved in ensuring a peaceful election come December 7.

Mr Bagbin also called for a standard condition of service for the media and urged that the National Media Commission to lead the move to advocate and implement it.
