Prioritise stable employment over allawa - Mahama to trainee nurses

Former President John Mahama has urged trainee nurses to prioritise securing stable employment over relying on allowances.

Speaking to trainee nurses on Saturday, the NDC flagbearer acknowledged their financial difficulties but stressed that long-term employment is more advantageous than temporary allowances.

He reassured them that his administration would focus on job creation within the healthcare sector, ensuring that nurses and other healthcare professionals have stable and rewarding careers.

“We understand the challenges faced by trainee nurses, which is why, during our time in government, we proposed replacing your allowances with student loans. Our aim was to create more employment opportunities for you. What matters most is securing a job after you finish school, not just the allowance,” Mahama explained.

He criticised the current government for failing to deliver on its promises, noting that many nurses have been without their allowances for up to 30 months.

Mr. Mahama also pledged to resume and complete hospital projects that were abandoned by the current administration, as well as finish the Agenda 111 hospitals to create more employment opportunities for healthcare professionals.

“This election is between Ghana and the NPP,” Mahama concluded.
