Parliament: Ato Forson urges Ghanaians to sanction NPP MPs for causing financial loss
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in Parliament, has urged Ghanaians to hold New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs accountable at the polls, following their absence from a recalled parliamentary session on Thursday, November 7.
Speaker Alban Bagbin was compelled to adjourn the House indefinitely due to the lack of quorum caused by the NPP MPs’ failure to attend, preventing any decision-making on urgent national issues.
The session, which had been requested by the NPP to address pressing matters, ended in frustration as their own MPs failed to appear, sparking criticism from the NDC caucus.
Speaking at a press conference after the adjournment, Dr. Ato Forson condemned the absence of the NPP MPs, arguing it resulted in a financial loss to the state, considering the costs involved in assembling members for the special session.
Dr. Forson highlighted that the recall process entails substantial expenses, including travel and operational costs funded by taxpayers, which he noted were effectively wasted due to the NPP’s no-show.
He stressed that this conduct reflected a disregard for the Ghanaian people and public resources, underscoring the need for accountability in leadership.
He called on Ghanaians to view this incident as a reflection of poor leadership and urged them to "sanction" the NPP MPs at the upcoming elections.
"The NPP Minority Caucus has consistently disrespected the Ghanaian people and caused financial loss to the state,” Dr. Forson stated.
“This recall cost the state, and they are abusing it.
Ghanaians should vote them out for this conduct, he concluded.
