Opoku-Agyemang urges Ashanti Region to vote for change in Dec. 7 polls

The Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has appealed to voters in the Ashanti Region to back the NDC for change in the upcoming December 7 general elections.
Speaking to a gathering of professionals in the Nhyiaeso Constituency during her campaign tour, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged the region to reconsider its loyalty to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which she argued has not rewarded their support with adequate development.
Despite the NDC’s relatively lower vote count in the region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that her party has consistently championed key projects for Ashanti.
She highlighted major infrastructure achievements under NDC administrations, including the Kejetia Market and a modern airport, as evidence of the party’s commitment to Ashanti's progress.
Calling on residents to vote for Mr. John Dramani Mahama in the presidential election, she asserted that the NDC would bring further development and economic growth to the region.
"Ashanti deserves more, and the NDC is committed to delivering that," she said, framing the upcoming election as an opportunity for residents to secure a government that prioritizes their development.
On the state of the economy, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang criticized the current administration, led by President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for the country's financial instability and high debt levels.
"Our country is not in a good place financially," she noted, adding that "it will take sacrifice and a new direction to restore stability.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged a strong vote for Mahama, asserting that policies such as the 24-Hour Economy, the Big Push, and the National Apprenticeship Programme would generate jobs and bolster economic recovery.
She emphasized that a change in leadership was essential to bringing the needed transformation and prosperity to Ghana.
