No more politicisation of state institutions, payment of utility bills, fuel, ex-gratia if I’m elected – Mahama

Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has outlined a series of ambitious plans aimed at reforming state institutions and reducing government expenditure if he is reelected in the upcoming December 7 polls.
In a Facebook post, Mr Mahama highlighted the need to address the excessive politicisation of key state institutions such as the Judiciary, the Electoral Commission, and other independent constitutional bodies.
He emphasised that these institutions must operate impartially to uphold democratic principles and ensure public trust. To achieve this, Mr Mahama proposed major constitutional reforms designed to insulate these bodies from political influence and enhance their independence.
Additionally, Mr Mahama has committed to tackling the phenomenon of a bloated government, which he argues leads to inefficiencies and increased costs for taxpayers. He has vowed to create a leaner government structure that prioritizes efficiency and effectiveness.
Mr Mahama also addressed the issue of governance costs, which he believes have become unsustainable.
He pledged to implement measures to cut down on these expenses, specifically targeting the payment of utility bills, fuel expenses, and ex-gratia payments.
