Nkrumah saga: I apologise and regret any discomfort caused – Napo
Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has apologised for comments made during a rally in Kumasi where he compared President Akufo-Addo's achievements to those of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Addressing a charged crowd of NPP supporters, Dr. Prempeh, popularly known as "Napo," claimed that no president had achieved more than Akufo-Addo, not even “your Kwame Nkrumah.”
These remarks have sparked backlash from various sections of the Ghanaian public.
The Convention People's Party (CPP), Dr. Nkrumah’s party, has demanded an apology and called for Dr. Prempeh's resignation. Additionally, he has faced criticism from political opponents and ordinary Ghanaians.
In a statement, Dr. Prempeh clarified that he did not intend to denigrate Dr. Nkrumah or any other president.
He emphasised that his comments reflected his personal opinion about President Akufo-Addo's impact compared to other presidents in Ghana's history.
“I note the concerns raised after my statement. I apologise sincerely and regret any discomfort caused,” he said in his statement.
