Noting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) “has just moved from minority to majority” in parliament, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson has declared the new advantage attained by the main opposition will be used to serve the Ghanaian public.

Speaking to the media in parliament, after a major ruling by Speaker Alban Bagbin, he asserted the NDC “from day-one” was, in fact, the legitimate majority “of this parliament” but had to settle for the minority position due to “certain machinations”.

“Finally, we’re here. We’re here to do the business of the people of Ghana,” he proclaimed. “We’re here to begin the process to reset our country.”

“Our country has gone through very difficult times. In fact, often times, the people of Ghana have blamed parliament for not standing up for the people of Ghana. But, obviously, you can’t blame the NDC minority because we were not having a working majority. Today, we have the working majority. We’ll begin the process to reset our country,” Dr Forson said.

The new majority leader of parliament said: “We want to use this opportunity to assure the people of Ghana that the NDC majority will stand for the people of Ghana, any day, any time.”

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson indicated plans “to begin the process to move to the majority side and elect a new Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament on Tuesday [October 22]”.

“We assure the people of Ghana, that we'll also take over majority of the committees of parliament.

“We’ll do the work in such a way that will benefit the people of Ghana,” he emphasised.

After four MPs crossed the floor, the speaker declared their seats vacant. Consequently, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) now has 135 seats, while the NDC holds 136 seats.
