Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has successfully brokered peace between two long-feuding factions within the Fomena Constituency of the Ashanti Region.

His timely intervention has brought an end to a four-year dispute that had resulted in the closure of the party's office, hampering its operations and frustrating party members and supporters.

Dr. Prempeh, affectionately known as "Napo," utilized his strong arbitration skills to reconcile the opposing parties during a visit to Fomena on Friday, where he campaigned for votes for the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In a private meeting, Napo demonstrated patience and maturity as he listened to both current and former executives of the party, who had been at loggerheads for years.

After hearing the concerns of both sides, Napo urged the factions to forgive past grievances, unite, and work together for the betterment of the party.

He emphasized that the NPP government, under President Akufo-Addo, had worked hard over the last eight years to set Ghana on the path to prosperity, and retaining power in the 2024 elections was essential to continuing these efforts.

Napo stressed that such a victory could only be achieved through peace and unity within the party.

Regarding the NPP's Parliamentary Candidate for Fomena, Napo supported the decision to back sitting independent MP Andrew Asiamah.

Although Mr Asiamah had won his seat as an independent in the 2020 elections, he has consistently supported the NPP in Parliament. Napo explained that the party leadership, after careful deliberation, decided that Mr Asiamah, who has his political roots in the NPP, should run for the Fomena seat under the NPP banner in 2024.

This move, he said, would help reunite party members who had drifted away to strengthen the NPP’s chances in the constituency.

Napo's counsel resonated with the two factions, who agreed to put their differences aside and work together for the NPP's success in the December 7, 2024, elections.

Former Fomena NPP Constituency Chairman, Akwasi Nti, who led one of the factions, demonstrated his commitment to peace by handing over the keys to the party office to the current executives.

He expressed his respect for Napo and vowed to leave the past behind and work for a united NPP in Fomena.

The current constituency chairman, Akwasi Adom, also called for reconciliation and asked for forgiveness from those he had wronged during the feud.

He promised to lead the party with unity and hard work as they prepare for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
