The Vice Presidential Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has dismissed former President John Mahama's promise to create a new region for the people of Bawku as a blatant falsehood.

Addressing a gathering of key stakeholders, including religious leaders, Zongo chiefs, teachers, and students in Ashanti Mampong, Dr Opoku Prempeh described the promise as an attempt to mislead the people of the area.

Dr Opoku Prempeh, popularly called Napo, questioned Mahama's sincerity, citing his failure to create regions during his presidency, even for his own people in northern Ghana.

He expressed doubts about Mahama's commitment to national development, accusing him of using the issue for political gain rather than focusing on the country's interests.

At the event, Napo urged the people of Mampong to cast their votes decisively for his boss, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, whom he praised for his proven leadership and vision for Ghana's future.

He expressed confidence that the Mampong Constituency would also re-elect Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong to continue what he regarded as an exceptional work in Parliament.

Napo further criticised Mahama's record, highlighting while Mahama, a northerner, failed to bring about key developments in the north during his tenure, President Akufo-Addo successfully created two new regions and restored peace to the Dagbon traditional area.

He emphasised these achievements were a testament to the NPP's dedication to addressing the needs of the people.

The event also saw teachers commending the NPP's flagship Free SHS policy, which they said had provided significant relief to both parents and educators.

Mr Joseph Acqaah, Acting Chairman of the Ashanti Mampong Coalition of Concerned Teachers, applauded the Teacher Professionalisation policy, which includes Teacher Licensure, Professional Learning Communities, and Continuous Professional Development, as a major step forward in enhancing the teaching profession.

Dr Opoku Prempeh expressed his deep gratitude to his father, the Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, for his prayers, blessings, and valuable counsel.

Mr Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, Member of Parliament for Ashanti Mampong, on his part, criticised the opposition NDC for campaigning along religious lines.

Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong emphasised Muslims and Christians had lived in harmony for many years, adding there should be no doubt about the capability of Muslims to lead the nation.
