The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has raised serious allegations against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing them of attempting to manipulate the 2024 general elections.

At a press conference held at the party’s headquarters, NPP Communications Director, Mr. Richard Ahiagbah, revealed a leaked document that allegedly outlines the NDC's covert plans to seize power by any means necessary.

According to Mr. Ahiagbah, the NDC has been working on this strategy since 2021, using disruptive and underhanded tactics aimed at gaining control of the government.

He described the NDC’s actions as a betrayal of public trust and a threat to Ghana’s democracy.

Mr. Ahiagbah called on voters to punish the opposition for these alleged plans, urging them to safeguard the country’s democratic institutions and prevent any future abuse of power.

A key part of the NPP's accusations centres on the NDC's reported efforts to gain a parliamentary majority with the backing of Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

The NPP pointed to the NDC Minority's unrelenting opposition to the 2022 budget as an example of their underhanded strategy.

In a separate statement, the NPP commended its Majority Caucus, led by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, for upholding the rule of law during parliamentary proceedings.

The party praised the MPs for showing maturity in the face of provocations from the NDC Minority and for their dedication to lawful processes.

Mr. Ahiagbah further urged Speaker Bagbin to maintain neutrality, reminding him of his role as a referee in parliamentary affairs rather than a participant in partisan politics.

The NPP highlighted a recent Supreme Court ruling that ordered the Speaker to reverse a decision that allegedly favoured the opposition, calling it a vindication of the Majority Caucus.

The party reiterated its commitment to Ghana’s peace, stability, and democratic principles, stressing the importance of adhering to constitutional law and the need for impartiality in the country’s governance.
