NPP race: Bawumia has done his best but Ken is the ‘David of our time' – Group
A group advocating the selection of Kennedy Agyepong as the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer, known as “Ken We Trust”, has urged Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to step aside and endorse Mr Kennedy Agyepong's candidacy to bring about a new era of leadership for the party going into the 2024 general elections.
The group believes that Vice President Bawumia has already made significant contributions to the party and that it is time for a new leader, symbolised by Mr Kennedy Agyepong, to take the reins and lead the party to victory.
Mr Enoch Obese, the group's president, along with its General Secretary, Kwame Nkrumah, made this appeal during an interview on Accra 100.5 FM's Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Odehyeeba Kofi Essuman on September 20, 2023.
They acknowledged Vice President Bawumia's substantial contributions to the party, especially during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic to the economy, and commended him for his efforts in supporting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during these hard times.
However, the group emphasised that the current phase the party finds itself in requires fresh leadership and a new approach to defeat the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which they likened to Goliath.
They expressed firm belief that Mr Kennedy Agyepong is the ideal candidate to lead the party to victory in the 2024 general elections.
Mr Enoch Obese highlighted Kennedy Agyepong's track record of assisting numerous individuals within the party, which, in his group's view, makes him a standout choice for the leadership position.
The group is confident that if given the opportunity to lead and subsequently elected as president in the 2024 general elections, Mr Kennedy Agyepong will continue to be a force for positive change within the NPP party.
