NPP challenges NDC to provide evidence of voter register discrepancies

Government spokesperson, Mr Kofi Tonto has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to present evidence supporting their claims of discrepancies in the Electoral Commission’s voters register.
Mr. Tonto defended the work of the Electoral Commission (EC), led by Jean Mensa, asserting that the body is fulfilling its constitutional duties.
Mr. Tonto explained that the Electoral Commission is required by law to compile a provisional voters' register within three months after the end of the registration period.
This register contains voters' names, ages, genders, residential addresses, and photographs.
He emphasised that the process is transparent, and a copy of the provisional register has been provided to each political party for review.
"The purpose of this exercise is to allow political stakeholders to scrutinise the provisional register and raise any concerns they may have," he said.
Mr Tonto also highlighted that the process includes mechanisms for addressing any errors, as outlined in the Constitutional Review (CR), allowing for corrections to be made if discrepancies are found.
"The EC goes further to ensure that any errors in the register can be addressed through proper legal channels," Mr. Tonto added, urging the NDC to follow this procedure rather than making unsubstantiated claims in the media
Mr. Tonto threw this challenge to the NDC while speaking on Accra-based Metro TV on Wednesday, 18 September 2024.
