NDC petitions Speaker on missing BVDs at EC
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has petitioned the Speaker of Parliament on the missing BVDs.
The missing Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) and Biometric Verification Registration Kits (BVRKs) from the Electoral Commission have sparked significant concern within the public and social media spheres.
Following revelations made by Minority Leader Mr Cassiel Ato Forson about the disappearance of these crucial electoral tools, the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the NDC has taken decisive action.
In response to the escalating interest surrounding the issue, FEC initiated an internal probe to uncover the truth behind the missing equipment.
The NDC in a statement dated April 18, 2024, and signed by its General Secretary, Mr Fifi Kwetey, said this call for investigation gained further momentum after the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) admitted during an Inter- Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on April 9, 2024, that the biometric devices were indeed stolen.
Subsequently, on April 15, 2024, the NDC held a major press conference to address the matter, highlighting the potential impact of the missing equipment on the upcoming December general elections.
Following extensive deliberations during a meeting on April 16, 2024, FEC decided to escalate the issue to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.
In a formal letter addressed to the relevant authorities, FEC requested assistance in thoroughly investigating the matter.
The NDC expressed its willingness to collaborate and provide technical support, including the deployment of a specialised IT team to aid in the investigation process.
The overarching goal of the NDC's request for investigation is to achieve closure on the matter and ensure the integrity of the electoral process leading up to the December 2024 elections.
The statement concluded with the importance of conducting a thorough and transparent investigation to uphold the principles of free and fair elections in Ghana.
