NDC condemns assassination of former regional chairman

The Upper East Regional Youth Wing of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned the tragic assassination of Mr. Williams Akanyele, a former Regional Vice Chairman.
The youth wing expressed deep sadness and outrage over the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, September 7, 2023.
In a statement signed by Mr. Samson Samari, the Deputy Regional Youth Organiser, released on Thursday, September 7, 2023, the youth wing called upon the Ghana Police Service and other state security agencies operating within the region to take immediate action.
They urged these authorities to launch a comprehensive investigation to swiftly bring the perpetrator(s) of this dreadful crime to justice.
The statement highlighted the distressing circumstances of the assassination, noting that Mr. Akanyele had been in Sirigu on September 6, 2023, for routine party and family activities related to a funeral when he was assassinated within the confines of his own room.
This tragic event underscored the critical need for a thorough investigation.
Furthermore, the statement mentioned that there had been an attempted assassination on another party colleague, Comrade Martin Ariku, the Constituency Chairman for Binduri, on August 27, 2023, in the safety of his home.
These incidents raised serious concerns about the need for enhanced security measures in the Upper East Region.
The NDC's Upper East Regional Youth Wing issued a two-week ultimatum to the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies in the region, urging them to swiftly apprehend the individuals responsible for these acts.
They warned that failure to do so would compel the party to take stronger actions in response.
The statement reflects the party's determination to seek justice for the victims and ensure the safety and security of its members in the region
