The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has filed a notice of appeal challenging a High Court ruling in Accra that granted the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) mandamus application, compelling the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the collation and declaration of parliamentary results in four constituencies.

The constituencies affected by the ruling are Tema Central, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Techiman South.

The High Court also ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide the Electoral Commission with adequate security to facilitate the collation and declaration process.

In response to the ruling, the NDC’s Director of Legal Affairs, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, announced the party’s decision to appeal the court’s directive.

“This matter is not yet over. Nobody should be deceived.

It will not end here. We are appealing the decision,” Mr. Tameklo stated to journalists outside the court.

He further confirmed that the party had filed the necessary notices of appeal and submitted a motion for a stay of execution to temporarily halt the High Court’s order.

The case adds another layer of contention to the aftermath of Ghana’s recent elections, with both the NDC and NPP locked in disputes over the outcome in several constituencies.

The appeal process is expected to extend the legal wrangling, as the NDC seeks to challenge the ruling and prevent the collation from proceeding under the current circumstances.
