Mpraeso lawmaker warns MPs not to offer jobs on social media for money
Davis Ansah Opoku has cautioned the public against fraudulent job scams on social media, where scammers impersonate MPs and demand money in exchange for employment opportunities. Speaking in Parliament, Opoku urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to such schemes.
“Mr Speaker, I have encountered multiple cases where fake social media accounts were created in my name, promising people jobs in exchange for money. Let me be clear—Members of Parliament do not recruit through social media, nor do we demand payment for employment opportunities,” he stated.
He stressed that no MP is mandated to recruit individuals into public institutions via social media and urged the public to verify job offers through official government channels.
Opoku made these remarks while contributing to a statement by Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and Kennedy Osei Nyarko, who addressed broader concerns about cyber fraud in Ghana.
Other contributors, including Samuel Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, highlighted the need for social media platforms to verify public officials and crack down on impersonation scams.
He encouraged victims of such scams to report incidents to the authorities and reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for stricter cyber fraud regulations.
He assured the public that Parliament remains dedicated to ensuring a safer digital environment for all.
