John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticised the Electoral Commission (EC) for its failure to provide political parties with copies of the provisional voters' register ahead of its voter exhibition exercise.

Speaking at a campaign event in Sogakope on Friday, 16 August 2024, Mr Mahama noted that the Commission had requested political parties to submit their external drives in July to receive the register, but has yet to fulfill this promise.

As of Friday evening, political parties were still waiting for the provisional voters' register, and the EC had not offered any explanation for the delay.

Mahama emphasized the importance of timely access to the register, stating, "I want to draw the attention of the Electoral Commission (EC). In July, they asked all political parties to bring their hard drives so they could give us a copy of the provisional voter’s register. The exhibition of the register starts in four days; we should have received those provisional registers by now so that we can help our members check if their names are there."

He urged the EC to expedite the process, saying, "I’m calling on the EC to make sure that we get the hard drives with the provisional register today [Friday, August 16], so that we can send them to our constituencies and let our executives start helping the people check and make sure their names are there."
