John Mahama warns against Kenyan-style protests, promises swift economic reforms for Ghana
The flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has urged Ghanaians to avoid the kind of disturbances currently unfolding in Kenya, where widespread protests against tax hikes have led to demands for President William Ruto’s resignation.
During a working visit to the La Dadekotopon constituency, Mr. Mahama criticised the Akufo-Addo-led government for its perceived economic mismanagement and assured citizens that an NDC government would create numerous opportunities, especially for the youth.
“They say Africa’s population is youthful and it’s important to have a youthful population. But if you have a youthful population and you’re not creating opportunities for them, then it can become a timebomb,” the NDC flagbearer stated.
He continued that: “We have all seen what is happening in Kenya, we don’t want that to happen in Ghana. And so, when we come, things are going to be different. It’s not going to be business as usual; we want to be a government in a hurry to repair the mess created by Bawumia and Akufo-Addo.”
Mr. Mahama emphasised the urgency of addressing the hardships faced by Ghanaians, promising swift action to revitalise the economy.
“The people of Ghana are looking at NDC to come and rescue them from the hardships in which they have been plunged…We will do things that will turn the economy around as quickly as possible,” he added.
