James Kofi Annan disassociates himself from Effutu youth demonstration over ministerial appointment omission

James Kofi Annan, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Effutu Constituency in the 2020 and 2024 elections, has distanced himself from a demonstration staged by some party youth in the Constituency demanding his appointment by President John Dramani Mahama.
In an official statement, Annan strongly condemned the protest and emphasized that he had no involvement in the actions of the youth.
He revealed that he had received intelligence about a planned disruption of a Constituency Executive meeting at his office and took steps to prevent it by advising the party’s Deputy Communications Officer to relocate the meeting.
“I later learned that the youth intended to hold a press conference instead, so I informed the Municipal National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) officer and provided the contact of the group’s leader, urging him to intervene,” Annan stated.
Despite his efforts, he noted that the demonstration proceeded in his absence, as he had been away from Effutu due to health reasons.
Annan reaffirmed that appointments are the exclusive prerogative of the President and urged party supporters to be cautious in associating his name with such actions.
He also expressed his unwavering support for President Mahama and the NDC government, emphasizing the need for unity to rebuild the country after what he described as "eight years of backwardness under the NPP."
“Our responsibility as a party in the constituency is to come together and support the government in achieving its objectives. I urge everyone to be measured in their expectations and to exercise maximum restraint,” he added.
