I’II probe Akosombo dam man-made disaster in 120 days -Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Akosombo Dam spillage in the Eastern Region, which resulted in a man-made disaster affecting numerous communities.
Mr Mahama noted that the unannounced spillage led to a significant loss of properties for many residents living around the dam.
Speaking at the NDC’s manifesto launch in Winneba, Central Region, on Saturday, August 24, 2024, Mr Mahama assured the chiefs and affected residents that his administration, if elected, would conduct a thorough probe into the actions of the Volta River Authority (VRA) that led to the disaster.
He promised that within the first 120 days of his government in 2025, those impacted by the spillage in the Volta Region, parts of the Eastern Region, and parts of the Bono Region would receive compensation.
Mr Mahama emphasized his commitment to ensuring justice and support for all the people affected by this man-made disaster, vowing that the investigation would hold those responsible accountable and provide relief to the victims.
