Ghana not a two-party state - GCPP flays EC
Mr. Citizen Ato Dadzie, the General Secretary of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana for acting as though the country operates as a two-party state.
He emphasized that Ghana is a multi-party democracy and argued that the EC's focus on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) undermines this reality.
Mr. Dadzie expressed his disappointment with the EC's approach during an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s 6:00 am news on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
His comments were in response to claims by Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of Corporate Services, who stated that the Provisional Voter's Register (PVR) had been provided to political parties.
However, Mr. Dadzie pointed out that the PVR had only been released to the two main political parties, NPP and NDC, without involving the GCPP and others.
He noted that no member of the GCPP had been contacted by the EC regarding the release of the PVR ahead of the Voter’s Exhibition Exercise.
Mr. Dadzie called on the commissioners of the EC to abandon this selective behaviour, stressing that it is detrimental to the development of Ghana's electoral process and democracy.
