Failed NPP Chairman aspirant blames Akufo-Addo for party's election defeat
Oheneba Kofi Adum Bawuah, a former aspirant for the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has attributed the party’s poor performance in the December 7 polls to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s leadership style.
Speaking on the GHANA YENSOM morning show on Accra 100.5 FM, hosted by Kaayire Kwesi Appea-Apreku, on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Mr. Adu Bawuah criticized the President for what he described as a government plagued by nepotism, cronyism, and greed.
“The President’s administration has been characterized by greed and a focus on amassing wealth at the expense of ordinary citizens,” he stated, adding that this perception contributed to voter apathy, especially in the Ashanti Region, traditionally the NPP's stronghold.
He noted that despite borrowing an estimated $44 billion, the government has little to show for it in terms of developmental projects.
"Go to the Ashanti Region, the party's base, and there’s no monumental project to justify this borrowing," he said, attributing the low voter turnout in the region to the lack of visible progress.
Mr. Adum Bawuah also accused President Akufo-Addo of fostering corruption within the party’s National Executives and National Council, further eroding public confidence in the government.
He called on the NPP’s leadership to conduct introspection and implement reforms to restore the party’s credibility and reconnect with the grassroots.
"The party must reflect on its current state and make the necessary changes to rebuild trust and improve its standing ahead of future elections," he concluded.
