Disqualified Yellow Party candidate seeks urgent EC review, threatens court action
Samuel Apea-Danquah, the Yellow Party's disqualified presidential candidate, is calling for an urgent review of the Electoral Commission's (EC) decision to bar him from contesting in the 2024 presidential race.
Mr. Apea-Danquah, one of 11 candidates disqualified over nomination form issues, has demanded clear reasons for his exclusion and threatened legal action if his concerns are not addressed swiftly.
In a formal notice to the EC, Mr. Apea-Danquah’s lawyer, Martin Kpebu, accused the electoral body of failing to provide justifications for the disqualification.
His lawyer emphasised that Mr. Apea-Danquah’s campaign could still be salvaged if the matter is resolved promptly.
“Despite the harm caused by the disqualification, our client believes a swift resolution can still salvage his campaign,” the notice stated, stressing that any further delays would jeopardise the Yello Party flagbearer’s chances of appearing on the ballot, especially with the upcoming deadline for printing ballots ahead of the December elections.
The notice continued: “In view of the above, we request an expeditious review of our client’s disqualification.”
It warned that if the EC fails to respond within three days, Mr. Apea-Danquah will explore legal avenues to challenge the decision.
“Our client has instructed us to request an amicable settlement of this matter within three (3) days upon receipt of this letter, failing which we will explore other legal avenues for redress,” the notice added.
