Dec. 7 polls: Kofi Akpaloo pledges ¢500 monthly child benefit; ¢700 support for families, unnemployed

The flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has promised substantial monthly financial support for children and unemployed adults if elected in the upcoming December polls.
Mr. Akpaloo highlighted his commitment to lifting Ghanaians out of financial hardship through direct monthly payments, advocating for policies he says will put “money directly into people’s pockets.”
“If they vote for me, I’m going to put money directly into people’s pockets,” Mr. Akpaloo affirmed, underscoring his plan to implement monthly benefits.
He pledged that “every child in Ghana below the age of 18 years will receive a monthly child benefit of GHS500,” aiming to relieve families of financial pressures and offer more robust support for children across the nation.
Beyond child benefits, the LPG Presidential candidate has set his sights on adult unemployment, promising income support of GHS700 per month for unemployed individuals over 18.
He further revealed plans to amend the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) regulations to offer unemployment benefits to those who lose their jobs, a significant expansion of the nation’s social safety net.
“We are going to amend SSNIT law so that those of you who are working, when you lose your job, SSNIT will pay you unemployment benefits,” Mr. Akpaloo explained, stressing his dedication to ensuring that no Ghanaian is left without support.
In his appeal to the electorate, Mr. Akpaloo highlighted his vision of a Ghana where financial assistance is accessible to all, particularly to those in need, urging citizens to consider the direct impact his policies could bring to families and individuals.
The LPG Presidential candidate was speaking in an interview on Accra-based Channel One TV.
