Dec 7 polls: Jane's Army of Women (JAW) rallies women behind VP candidate Prof Opoku-Agyemang
Advocacy group Jane's Army of Women (JAW) has called on "everyone, especially Ghanaian women" to support the vice-presidential candidacy of Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang who is the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.
JAW asserted at their launch their call was imperative "because if you lift a woman to that level of governance, you would have lifted an entire nation".
Led by Chairperson Lois Quarteng-Mensah, JAW self-identifies as "an apolitical rising force of like-minded Ghanaian women from diverse professional backgrounds and political persuasions across Ghana and around the world, who believe in the inherent potency of women in leadership".
The group, also, explained how they are apolitical yet have declared their support for the main opposition NDC, saying, they "seek to leverage on the current female vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, to help fix Ghana and restore our nation to a tragectory of peaceful coexistence, national stability and life in dignity".
Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is the first woman chosen by a major political party as a potential vice president of Ghana.
The 2024 general elections is slated for Saturday, December 7.
