Dec. 7 polls: EC disqualifies NDC Amenfi Central PC Joana Cudjoe
Joana Gyan Cudjoe is out of the 2024 parliamentary race.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for Amenfi Central, Western Region, has been disqualified by the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission (EC).
The EC's decision comes in view of a May 31, 2024-dated interlocutory injunction placed on Madam Cudjoe's candidacy by the Sekondi High Court, Western Region.
Until the final determination of an ongoing legal dispute which names Madam Cudjoe, the NDC, and the EC as defendants, with one Gyedu Frimpong and four others as plaintiffs, she cannot contest.
The court order instructed the EC and the NDC to desist from recognising Madam Cudjoe as an official parliamentary candidate.
This was revealed in an EC statement dated October 10, 2024, and signed by Deputy Chairman (Operations) Samuel Tettey.
"The said order," the statement emphasised, "has neither been stayed nor vacated, hence the Commission is bound by same."
