The Founding President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has warned the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to take their victory in the upcoming 2024 general elections for granted.

He stressed the critical need for the NDC to present clear and measurable strategies aimed at reducing Ghana's reliance on borrowing and avoiding another IMF programme by 2026.

As Ghana prepares for the December 7 polls to elect a new president and members of parliament, both the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition NDC have launched their campaigns.

In a Facebook post, Mr. Cudjoe urged the NDC to develop a well-coordinated plan for job creation and to estimate the positive impact of these initiatives on GDP.

“Meanwhile, the major opposition party, the NDC, should not assume 2024 is a done deal. Some of us are yet to see properly quantified interventions that will reduce our reliance on borrowing, and crucially how we may avoid another IMF programme in 2026,” Mr. Cudjoe stated.

He further added: “There is a need for the NDC to coordinate and relate the many promises of creating employment and ascertain by an estimated figure the qualitative addition to GDP.”

Mr. Cudjoe highlighted the importance of presenting well-defined and realistic economic plans to gain voter confidence.

He noted that IMANI Africa plans to provide a brief analysis for the public and media based on objective assessments of how the plans of the major political parties will impact the country, irrespective of the intense partisan debates expected in the coming days and weeks.
