Dec. 7 polls: Bawumia poised to make history for NPP – Gideon Boako
Dr Gideon Boako, spokesperson for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed confidence Dr Bawumia will lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to a historic victory in the upcoming December 7 general elections, aiming to break the traditional eight-year power rotation between Ghana's two main political parties.
Speaking to supporters in Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Ahafo region, during the submission of Dr Bawumia’s nomination forms to the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Boako highlighted the NPP’s goal of "breaking the eight" would be achieved through a combination of hard work and divine intervention.
He stressed, "the NPP's vision of breaking the eight will be realised through our collective effort and God's grace. Dr Bawumia's leadership will ensure the NPP's continued governance beyond the usual two-term cycle."
Dr Boako stated the NPP had demonstrated itself as the party best equipped to deliver on its promises, noting: "Dr Bawumia's leadership has been exceptional. Even the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) recognises his achievements, which is why they resort to unnecessary attacks on his integrity."
Drawing a contrast with the NDC’s flagbearer, former President John Mahama, Dr Boako argued, "Mahama's tenure as vice president was marked by failure, while Dr Bawumia has shown outstanding leadership. This contrast positions him as the leader capable of making history for the NPP."
He further characterised the 2024 elections as a critical choice between progress and regression, emphasising Dr Bawumia's role as a visionary leader committed to progress.
Dr Boako also highlighted the newfound unity within the NPP, which he described as a crucial factor in the party's preparation for the 2024 elections.
He praised the collaboration among key figures, including Kennedy Agyapong, who have rallied behind Dr Bawumia following one of the most hotly contested flagbearer races in the party’s history.
"The party’s unity is a beacon of hope, and with the support of all members, we are confident that we will break the eight-year cycle," he added.
