DRIP equipment belongs to all Ghanaians not NPP – Mahama

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has demanded for the removal of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) posters from equipment used in the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).

Mr. Mahama criticised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, for allegedly allowing the party’s parliamentary candidates to exploit DRIP machinery for political advertising.

Addressing a rally in Yeji, Pru East District, in the Bono East Region, Mr. Mahama condemned the use of taxpayer-funded DRIP equipment for partisan purposes.

"It’s the government’s money, funded by the taxes we all pay, whether you’re NPP, CPP, Christian, or Muslim, everyone contributes. They’ve used those taxes to import earth-moving equipment for road construction, and each district has been allocated some. But now, we’re seeing posters of NPP parliamentary candidates on the DRIP equipment," Mr. Mahama said.

He emphasised that the equipment, allocated across all 275 constituencies, belongs to all Ghanaians and should not be used for political campaigning.

Mr. Mahama called on President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia to recognise their duty to serve the entire nation rather than just their party.

He warned that the NDC would pursue further action if the posters were not promptly removed.

"I want to remind Akufo-Addo and Bawumia that they serve the entire country, not just the NPP. The equipment doesn’t belong to the party; it belongs to all Ghanaians," he stated.
