Court declares Dokua Asiamah-Adjei as NPP's legitimate candidate for Okaikwei North
The candidacy of Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary nominee for Okaikwei North, received a significant boost on Thursday, 5 September 2024, as the court dismissed a petition challenging her eligibility to vote in the constituency.
The ruling paves the way for Ms. Asiamah-Adjei to contest in the upcoming elections without further legal obstacles.
The petition, filed by Kingsley Anyamasah during the recent voter register exhibition, questioned whether Ms. Asiamah-Adjei was eligible to vote in Okaikwei North.
Ms. Asiamah-Adjei, who currently serves as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North, opted not to seek re-election in her current seat, instead securing the NPP’s nomination for Okaikwei North in December 2023.
Following the court's decision, Ms. Asiamah-Adjei’s lawyer, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, expressed satisfaction with the outcome.
"The case against Dokua has been dismissed. She’s the legitimate parliamentary candidate for the NPP in Okaikwei North," he stated.
