Clear medical supplies at Tema Port or we’ll protest – Minority warns

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has issued a warning to the government, threatening to launch a demonstration if all containers of essential medical supplies, currently locked up at the Tema Port, are not cleared.
This ultimatum comes after Health Minister Bernard Okoe Boye gave port officers a two-week deadline to release the consignment, which was donated to Ghana by the Global Fund.
Health Minister Bernard Okoe Boye has vowed to personally oversee the clearance process if the deadline is not met.
Addressing the media, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Ranking Member on the Health Committee of Parliament, emphasized the urgency of the situation.
He criticised the government's delay in releasing the medical supplies and reiterated the Minority's commitment to ensuring the containers are cleared.
"Previously, we highlighted the issue of locked-up medical supplies at the port. As members of the Minority in Parliament, we are determined to push the government to clear these vital commodities," Akandoh stated at a press conference.
He noted that despite the Health Minister's request for an additional two weeks, which seems unreasonable given that these supplies have been held for a year, they are allowing this period as a final opportunity. However, he stressed that all containers must be cleared within this timeframe as partial clearance will not be acceptable.
